Preference List

This page displays a list of preferred schools already selected for the application. It allows you to:

      Change the ranking of the schools

      Delete a preferred school from the list

      Add a new school to the list

      View and modify reasons for preference attached to an existing preferred school

You may modify the selection of preferred schools and their rank at any time until the admissions group closing date and time. After this date and time no further changes to preferences can be made. If you make changes you must re-submit the form. If you do not re-submit the form then the application will not be processed by the Local Authority and your child might not get a place at their preferred school.

After your child has been allocated a place at a school this page will change to become the Offer Information page and will allow you to see the offer of a place and, if necessary, to make an appeal application.

To change the order of choice of a school (its rank) you should select a new number by selecting the down arrow adjacent to the rank number and choosing from the list displayed. The rank numbers available (i.e. the maximum number of preferences you can make) are set by the Local Authority. When a rank position has been altered, check that each school has a different rank number. It is not possible to save the information on this page if two schools have the same rank number (although this might happen temporarily when you are altering ranks). To save and view the schools in their new rank, select the Refresh button.

If you have not entered the maximum permitted number of schools, the Add another preference button will be available. When this is selected the Preferred School Selector page is displayed. You will then be able to select a school and enter any special reasons (for example Special Educational Needs, religious reasons) for your preference. This button will not be available if you have already chosen the maximum number of schools allowed by the Authority.

To view and/or change special consideration reasons for a particular preference school, select the View button next to the school name. The Preferred School page is displayed, showing details for this school, where you can make the necessary changes.

To remove a preference from the list, select the Delete button next to the preferred school name. A warning message will be displayed requiring you to confirm that you wish to delete the school from the list.

Submit or Re-Submit Application

When you have finished your list of schools and special reasons, the next stage is to submit (send) the application form to the Local Authority. Select the Next button to be taken to the Submit Application page.

If you have changed the ranking but not refreshed it you will be asked if you wish the changes to be saved. If you have not chosen the maximum number of preferred schools a message will warn you of this. You can choose to continue or you can return to the Preferred School Selector page to add more schools.

The Submit Application page will be displayed.

The Previous button will take you to the Your Child’s Details screen. If the ranking has been changed but not saved, you will be asked if you wish to save the changes.

If you have opened this page to edit an application that has already been submitted, you will need to re-submit the application. Select the Re-Submit Application button to be taken to the Re-Submit page. You will need to reconfirm your acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.

You can make changes and re-submit the application until the closing date and time. After this date the Submit Application button will no longer be available.

After the Closing Date and Time

After the admission group’s closing date and time you will not be able to add to or change your preferred schools or any of the preference details from this page.

After Offers Have Been Made

When the Local Authority has published the offers of school places this page will no longer be available. Instead you will be directed to the Offer Information page. This page lists the schools in preference order (for all applications, whether made online or using a paper form) and allows you to view the original application form for applications made online. It also displays the the Offer Status (i.e. whether or not an offer has been made) for each school. This may be a school to which you did not apply but to which it has been necessary to offer a place due to oversubscription.
